Copy and paste are two functions we all perform when using Windows 10 or a computer or smartphone. If you have to copy and paste the same things over and over again, wouldn’t it be great if you have a clipboard history ready so you can get the text you want to paste from your clipboard history. Microsoft thought the same thing and brought a solution with them. With Windows 10 Build 18234, you can enable clipboard history by pressing Win+V keyboard shortcuts. You will have the option to enable clipboard history. Click Connect. Also with build 18234, the image size limit for screenshots has been increased from 1MB to 4MB to match the potential size of full-screen screenshots taken on high DPI devices.

The cloud clipboard is officially known as clipboard history. It’s powered by Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure and uses the same technologies that made it possible to sync your settings across your devices and make your files available anywhere with OneDrive. The company describes it as follows. At this time, moving text on the clipboard is only supported for clipboard content less than 100KB. Clipboard history currently supports plain text, HTML, and images under 4MB.

Turn clipboard sync on or off via Settings

  • You will need to be signed in with your Microsoft account.
  • In Windows 10, open Settings > System > Clipboard.

  • In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Clipboard.
  • Toggle the option to On or off in clipboard history.
  • If you’ve set it to On and you’re signed in to your Microsoft account, you can sync your clipboard between devices.

    Disable Windows Clipboard ‘Sync across Devices’ via Registry Editor

  • Press Win + R in combination to bring up up the ‘Run’ dialog box.
  • Type ‘regedit’ in the empty field of the box and press ‘Enter’.
  • When Registry Editor opens, navigate to the following path address –
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsSystem
  • Here, right-click on the ‘System’ key (folder) in the left pane and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name the value ‘AllowCrossDeviceClipboard’. Double click on it and set the value to ‘0’. Close Registry Editor. There is no need to restart your computer.

    Disable Windows Clipboard ‘Sync across Devices’ via Group Policy Editor

  • Press Win + R in combination to bring up up the ‘Run’ dialog box.
  • Type ‘gpedit.msc’ in the empty field of the box and press ‘Enter’.
  • Navigate in the following sequence –
  • Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > OS Policies.
  • Now switch to the right pane and under the Configuration section find the option ‘Allow clipboard sync between devices’. When found, double click on it and set the ‘Allow sync across devices’ option to ‘Off’. Click on the ‘OK’ button button to save your changes.
