How to Fix ‘WhatsApp Calls Not Ringing When Phone is Locked’ Issue – Guide
WhatsApp is undeniably one of the FREE voice messaging and calling options for users. So it should come as no surprise to see this on every phone (including ours, of course).
However, WhatsApp is not “free” from technical problems. Mainly because many users have recently reported that they cannot hear the ringtone when receiving calls on WhatsApp. So when you open WhatsApp or the lock screen, you can see that there are several missed calls that you didn’t notify.
Fix WhatsApp calls that don’t ring when Phone its blocked
Disable battery saving
The first thing you need to do is check your phone has battery saving feature activated. This feature is available on almost every Android smartphone to save some battery power when needed. This feature has disabled background apps and activities to save battery and you can easily disable it by following the steps below.
Open settings on your Android phone and look for battery settings, there you will find the Battery saver option. You can disable this option from there and even disable programming when the battery is low.
Force stop and clear cache
When you use an app for a longer period of time, it creates cache files, which sometimes slows down the app. Sometimes apps even stop working as they should, with too many cache files. To force stop the app, all you need to do is go to Settings > Apps & notifications > View all apps > WhatsApp > Force stop > OK.
Once the app is stopped, we can easily clear the app cache. To do this, simply access the information page of the WhatsApp application in the settings. There you will see an option called Storage and Cache, within that option, you clear the application cache and close the settings. To launch the app again, just run it from the app drawer.
call notifications
You should also make sure that WhatsApp call notification is enabled or not. To check this, all you can do is tap and hold the WhatsApp icon in the app drawer. In the app shortcuts, tap the app info icon (i) to go to the app info page.
On the app info page you will find the Notifications option, choose that option to find a bunch of app notifications inside it. There you’ll find a toggle button for call notifications, make sure it’s turned on. You can deactivate and reactivate once, just to be sure.
Update Google Play Services
Google Play Services could be the culprit here and causing the app to stop showing call notifications. In that case, all you can do is update Google Play Services from the Google Play Store. Well, it’s a little tricky to update Google Play Services because you won’t find it in the Play Store by searching.
All you have to do is go to Settings > Applications > Google Play Services and scroll to the bottom of the page. Select the app details at the bottom of the page to open the Google Play Store page for the Play Services app. Here you can check whether you need an update or not.
Reinstall WhatsApp
This is the last resort for you if all of the above methods didn’t work for you. You can uninstall WhatsApp from your phone and reinstall it from Google Play Store. But before installing the app again, make sure you restart your phone once to clear all traces of the app from the phone.
