As recently promised, a native Linux version of Cellar Door Games’ Rogue Legacy 2 is now available, offering the best experience on Steam Decks and Linux desktops.
Steam Deck had a crashing issue on the Windows version with Proton, which should be resolved with the new native Linux version. You must manually accept and select the Steam Linux runtime from the Properties -> Compatibility menu.
Rogue Legacy 2 is Genealogy Rogue LITE, which means it has all the trappings of a typical roguelike (random runs, character changes, etc.) but with constant updates and constant dead heirs. Your legacy defines you in this game. Use your parents’ legacy and increase your family’s fortune to give your children a better fighting chance. Each child is unique and has its own characteristics and abilities.
Your daughter can become a ranger. She might as well be vegan. It’s a new experience every time. Rogue Legacy 2 also lets you play however you want. Go deep, fast and dive deep into the depths of a randomly generated world. Or build your character slowly and steadily until you’re ready for a bigger challenge.
I have to admit, in addition to being a good action-platform Metroidvania, it also has a bit of comedy in it. I don’t know how much I laughed when my successor’s skill was “Super IBS”. Farting, allowing for higher jumps, was fun as expected. While playing, I can confirm that it’s a different quality port. The only odd issue I encountered was the Stadia controller forcing the camera to pan up , keyboard and Xbox controller were fine. In fact, very few people will ever see it. Other than that, it’s been very smooth and stable on both desktop Linux and Steam Deck.
Do you like challenges in games like Dead Cells? You will love this too.
Fedora desktops run smoothly at maximum settings, as expected. On Steam Deck, keeping it at 40Hz (but my monitor doesn’t run at 40Hz on his, so I’m at 45Hz in the video below) gave me a smoother experience and better battery life. This is also a quality title that cannot be overlooked.
